This year at Burning Man 2011 there will be a new moon – and so if one gets away from the light of Black Rock City there should be stars! Use Sky Map to know what you are looking at and it’s a great way to make friends with (and avoid being eaten by) the great white shark that may be wandering around in the dark (me).
A compass is useful. If you are tenting it, it can help you exactly position yourself in the shade of a vehicle or structure. If you’re utterly lost and disoriented – it can help you get some semblance of which side of the city you’re on and where your camp is.
This is an offline map of Black Rock City for 2010 complete with theme camps and art installations. I hear rumor that there *will* be another for 2011, and that this app is where to keep an eye out for it.
