Using the app feels easy. Just type in keywords relating to your line of work and a location (city, state or ZIP code) and press Find Jobs. Indeed displays a list of relevant postings. In my testing, there were several hits for free-lance writer near my area code. Select a job posting to get the full description and, from there, you can add it to your Saved Jobs list, or email it to yourself or someone else. Ready to apply? Tap the View and Apply button to go directly to the employer’s web site using your phone’s browser.
Press the drop-down to sort your results by date or radius of miles away from your home. You can start a new search at any time, or you can pick from a list of recent searches. One of the best features of the app – it listed new hits on my recent searches without my having to ask it to search again. I could tap the listing to go directly to the newest hits.
Indeed.com on the web provides several advanced search options including – job title; salary range; specific companies; full-time, part-time or contract, and whether the posting came from a company or a recruiter. Disappointingly, I couldn’t find these criteria in the phone app. Still, it was great to spend what would have been time wasted standing in line scouting for my next writing gig. I say check out the Indeed Job Search app, and scope out your own employment opportunities.
