Angry Birds Space is really setting a breakneck pace. The entire series of Angry Birds games up to now, across all the platforms on which it is available (which includes PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360), has notched a total of 700 million downloads. That’s since the game’s release in 2009. In just 35 days, Angry Birds Space managed to capture better than 7 percent of a total gained over three years.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to all fans of Angry Birds everywhere. While numbers like this certainly say something about the popularity of Angry Birds, for us the main goal is to keep creating fun new experiences that everybody can enjoy,” Rovio wrote in the post.

There certainly is a great deal of Angry Birds popularity, even three years on. Arguably a big part of Rovio’s success with Angry Birds is the fact that the developer constantly pushes new content to the games, for free. Angry Bird Space has already received a free update that brings 10 new levels, which just dropped last week.

The developer also has said that there won’t be another big drought before it releases more games. While Angry Birds was released in 2009 and there have been other iterations since then, they’ve mostly been the same game; Angry Birds Space is the first real sequel to Angry Birds that has layered in a substantial change to the core game.

But as TechCrunch reports, Rovio said it intends to release another four games this year. That’s in addition to the one that’s already been downloaded 50 million times.
