Like its big brother franchise, the game is set in a modern world war. Korea, Pakistan, and Russia form the KPR, a world dominating conglomeration of generic military shooter enemies, and your main baddies for this outing. Fight through epic Michael Bay-esque action sequences throughout America’s cities and highways as you try to save the world. The story is a generic vehicle for the massive set pieces, and you won’t remember a single character’s name when all is said and done, but that’s just fine. The game still takes you on a fun action movie adventure.

The gameplay is standard Call of Duty, except crammed onto the play screen in the form of virtual buttons. Shoot, aim down the iron-sights, toss grenades, crouch, and sprint your way through each mission. The controls can feel quite awkward, and you’ll probably hit plenty of buttons accidentally, but they’re still very well done considering the platform. There are some different control options and settings to tweak, so experiment and find what works best for you.

The game is well done, but not perfect. The AI is very basic, the cover doesn’t always protect you properly, and the levels are quite linear. There were plenty of bugs and glitches to contend with on the iOS versions, so you know the Android version is going to have some problems. When the game works, it’s one of the best mobile shooters ever, but there’s a good chance you’ll have to deal with glitches, crashes, and various other game breakers, so approach this download with caution.

The game’s multiplayer has been expanded to match its console big brother better than ever before. Kill streaks, additional stat tracking, and more leveling options than ever before make the multiplayer great. Team up with friends or strangers and take part in matches with up to twelve players across six maps. You can earn currency to spend on gun attachments and upgrades, and this currency can be purchased in app. I feel like that kind of defeats the purpose, but the option is there if you want it. There is one massive bug in which all of your ranks and statistics are wiped out, forcing you to start over again, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
