Android App Video Review: Hambo

May 29, 2012

Hambo is an excellent new physics puzzler from, the popular Flash game site that brought us wonderful titles such as Fragger and Gravity Guy. It definitely feels inspired by Fragger, but it does a lot to innovate and iterate on those mechanics.

When you couple that with a hilarious concept, clever title, and lots of bacon puns, it honestly surpasses Fragger in its greatness. It’s not perfect (and neither is Fragger) but it’s creative, fun, and worth a look.

Your goal is to kill the enemy pigs, and like the action hero our heroic pig is named after, you’ll be doing so with a huge variety of weapons, including: handguns, Uzis, throwing knives, a bow and arrow, remotely detonated C4, and of course, simple grenades. Aiming each weapon is simple and intuitive. The challenge comes in knowing which weapon to use at what time, and often you’ll need good timing to succeed. The environment is full of glass panes, crates, exploding barrels, ice blocks, and many other puzzle elements.

As you play through and attempt to perfect the game’s 200+ levels, you’ll be saving up loads of coins. You can use these coins to skip levels, view videos of level solution, or to purchase several hilarious costumes. Some of these costumes reference other Miniclip titles, while others reference popular movies and video games, including Mortal Kombat and God of War. OpenFeint leaderboards and achievements are supported for your competitive needs.

The graphics are colorful, varied, and very well done, as is the sound. The action-hero-war-motif they have going is endlessly amusing, too. This is a top-notch physics puzzler, and it comes highly recommended. It’s billed as free, but only for the first chapter, otherwise you’ll have to pay to unlock the full version, and you can always buy extra coins in-app if you feel like it. Hambo is definitely worth your time to at least download and try out.
