Android apps to prepare for the TV fall season

by Kristen Nicole

One great thing about autumn is the return of your favorite television shows. The familiar cast of "Mad Men" or a new fall lineup can ease the transition from long, summer days. Get TV listings, recommendations, news and viewing options with these top Android apps.

TV Guide has most the features you need, with local listings, bookmaking, search and entertainment news. The free Android app includes programming details such as the cast, episode titles and more. Share your favorites, read episode recaps, and filter searches based on your preferences. TV Listings for Android is another television guide app, with easy search tools to see what's coming up in your area, on cable or satellite. Save and share programs, view different program categories and set reminders, with the 99-cent add-on app. IMdB has all the information you'd ever need, for TV shows, listings, cast and crew, as well as photos. Free, this Android app has trailers, celebrity information that runs the gamut of their careers and other tidbits you might find interesting. IMdB is searchable, with a handful of filtering options as well.

Never miss an episode of "Glee" again. DirecTV lets customers set their DVR when they're away from home. Free to download, the DirecTV app also displays program guides and basic account information. The app can also be used to order movies and special programs.

Hulu might not have launched its Android app yet, but offers streaming video, on demand. The free app has broadcast content from CBS, NBC, Showtime and more. Watch full episodes on our Android phone, with a feed that acts as a running channel of your favorite shows.

Gmote has two perks: It can stream content from your computer to your phone, and act as a remote control for your computer's media player. Great for those that like to stream TV episodes, or purchase them for download. Free, Gmote also controls PowerPoint, and acts as a wifi touchpad.
