Well for the most part I suggest some apps I love and have free versions or have "Lite" versions. Some I suggest are twitter apps such as Hootsuite and I absolutely love SlideScreen or Gameboid. Depends on what you are looking for though, anything specific?
I'd say it all depends on what you want to use it for and what service provider is best for you. I'd actually say to choose the service provider FIRST, because your awesome phone is no good if your service stinks.
From there, choose a phone based on your activities. Gamers and movie watchers may prefer bigger screens and faster processors (Evo, Galaxy phones). Texters and emailers may like to have a physical keyboard over a touchscreen (Epic). Social media junkies might like an interface like Motoblur to keep all of their feeds together.
