APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Buy and read books on your tablet, and share them among many devices.
  • BUMMER: Only about 3 million books available, and not many in the free category.
  • COOL: Night mode is great for reading in the dark and saving battery power.

Android tablets have the capability of housing your entire library on a single device, and Google Books makes for a solid way to shop for and read e-books.

You can shop around for new books and purchase them using your Google account. Titles can be read instantly, or shared between other Google Books apps on other devices. The app also includes a selection of free books to get your collection started.

When reading, you can control the size and spacing of text. The tablet’s screen is a great replacement for printed books because it provides back-lighting. You can even switch to “night mode” so you can continue reading in bed without disturbing your significant other.

An easy and quick reading experience, plus the ability to buy, download and share more books almost instantly, makes Google Books a very useful free tablet app.
