Watch or create the news with ChannelCaster: Social News for Android

by Ian Black

In the future, everyone will be a “legitimate” news source. Until then, use ChannelCaster: Social News to surf content on the go with your Android device, or create your own news channel.

The app provides access to a ton of pre-loaded channels and content, including news from around the world from sources like the Associated Press or Le Monde, fun stuff like comic strips, most popular music videos (categorized by region of the world), quirky individual content such as YouTube videos and much more.

There’s so much that it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed. To manage it, use the "Favorites" button to make a list of channels you’ll view on a regular basis. When you’ve had enough of “Gossip Mash” and “Street Fashion,” go ahead and create your own channel. First, you’ll need to register with ChannelCaster, but from there it’s easy to combine Twitter feeds, blogs and YouTube channels into a personal cast.

The app also lets you view content on the web, save articles for reading offline, or change the theme of the app from day to night.

Problems? Yes, the app force-closed on my HTC Nexus One a few times as I jumped between photos or a video. Still, the content is fresh and the price is right. If you’re an introvert, just watch what others are up to, but for extroverts, we’re ready for your close-up.
