Fresh Android Apps for Sep. 12: The Guardian, Smozzy Beta, Gravity Wins update

by Ian Black

In today’s Fresh Android Apps, get the latest news from a top UK newspaper with The Guardian, browse the web without a data plan using Smozzy Beta, or catch the latest update to the game Gravity Wins.

The Guardian (Free)

Anglophiles unite! Another top British news agency goes mobile on Android.

The Guardian newspaper remains very popular both in the UK and internationally. This app adds multimedia content to the text and images of the paper to enhance it online presence further. This mobile app delivers all this content to your Android device for free.

Navigate through the content by section, topic, or contributor. Customization features allow you to schedule a daily download for reading offline. Add favorites to your home screen or share finds with others over social networks.

Smozzy Beta (T-Mobile Only) (Free)

True, this Beta app only works for T-Mobile subscribers but the functionality is so astounding, I couldn’t resist including it in today’s Freshies.

Smozzy lets you use browse the web without a data plan – but you will need an unlimited messaging plan as that is the technology the app uses. The app works just like a regular browser so you don’t need to know anything about all the messages under the covers that make it go.

NOTE: Again this is currently in Beta only for T-Mobile subscribers at this time.

Gravity Wins update (Free)

This clever Connect 4-style game is back with an important update.

As a reminder, your goal is to put four of your color circles in a row, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. The “gravity’ of this game is that every few rounds the board rotates and all the circles tumble to a new location and the game continues.

The first release was only a two-person game but this update lets you play one-on-one against your phone. You’ll also notice updated menus.
