1. Tell us about yourself - where you live, your job, things you like to do.
I live in sunny southern California, a few minutes drive to Laguna and Newport Beach, along with a short flight to Silicon Valley -- can life get any better? I’m co-founder of mChron. I’m an entrepreneur 22 hours of the day, and the other two I’m playing games on the iPad. Our photo organization and sharing application VisR is on Android, and we will have it on iPhone soon. VisR automatically organizes all your photos into events. I’m passionate about startup companies, venture funds, incubators, mobile phones and social entrepreneurship.
2. Which Android device or devices do you own? Why did you choose Android? How do you customize your device?
I’m using the HTC Thunderbolt. The selling point to me was being able to have Google services consolidated into the phone -- calendar, maps, contacts, email and soon Google+.
3. Do you root?
No, I don’t root my phone.
4. Is there a particular category of apps that interests you the most?
Group communication and photo apps are tied for the category of apps that interests me the most. Group communication apps are an excellent way to communicate with a group of people. With location tied to most apps, I’m able to coordinate meet-ups effortlessly. GroupMe, which was recently acquired by Skype, is one of my favorite apps along with Huddle from Google+.
Photo applications are useful for a lot of reasons. I use photo applications to take notes along with capture events such as family parties. Since Android gives app developers the liberty to use a lot of resources, such as contacts and location, most photo apps are an enjoyable experience.
5. What are your top apps and why?
Evernote: Evernote is awesome. No other way to put it. Being able to take notes tied to location and then have the ability to check them out on the web OR on a desktop client equals the Charlie Sheen moment #winning!
Foursquare: I use the app to find deals around me along with suggestions about places. I love the new update that lets you check-in at events.
VisR: (as mentioned I’m a co-founder): Our app organizes all your photos into events. Most of the time the photos we take describe events such as travel adventures or family parties. Our app organizes these memories and allows you to reflect on them and share them with ease.
CardioTrainer: Love this app! The app measures my caloric loss along with other metrics, and I’m able to compete with friends as well as track my progress over time.
5. What apps are popular among your colleagues and friends?
6. Give an example of a time an app was truly useful to you.
Google Maps has saved me many times! Especially with turn by turn directions. Was stuck at jury duty once, had no idea how to get out of there. Google Maps rules!
7. Any URLs you’d like to share?
The URL to VisR’s website: www.visrapp.com
There’s an app for everyone and every type of need!
