Fresh Android Apps for Aug. 18: Google Reader update, Tanked, Jimmy Pataya

by Ian Black

Tablet owners rejoice – Google has refreshed Google Reader for Android tablets. When it’s time to play try Tanked for 3D war machine games or Jimmy Pataya for jumping out of airplanes.

Google Reader update (Free)

It makes sense that Google would update all their own apps and services for Honeycomb-based tablets, right? Google Reader gets the upgrade now.

Need a single app to consolidate all your feeds from your favorite blogs, websites, and other sources? This app does the job. Browse through feeds by sorting – newest, oldest, or “magic.” Or, filter by feeds from people you know, starred items, or other subscription categories.

This update has a new optimized “look and feel” for tablets.

Tanked (Free)

Multiplayer tank war has been around since the arcades of the 1980s but this service takes it mobile.

Play with up to eight simultaneous opponents over Wi-Fi or 3G, or play with up to four local people with a split screen. Text chat in the lobby before a battle or during the combat itself.

The 3D action may be as close as you get to real military conflict.

Jimmy Pataya (Free)

Tom Petty’s classic song Free Fallin’ has nothing on this game. Jimmy Pataya is an animated adrenalin junkie. So, he decides to go skydiving without a parachute.

Move Jimmy through the breezes so that he doesn’t crash through the wooden platforms that hang between him and the ground. Earn yourself a helmet or a rocket-pack and Jimmy will be able to withstand a few accidents on his way to the dirt.
