Fresh Android Apps for Aug. 17: SyFy for Android Tablets, Moxier Mail, Minecraft

by Ian Black

In today’s fresh apps, Syfy channel blasts into the crowded space of TV networks with mobile apps, this one specific to Android tablets.

But if you want to actually do work on your tablet, try Moxier Mail. And, to scratch your construction itch, check out Minecraft – Pocket Edition.

Syfy for Android Tablets (Free)

Like the Syfy channel? Here’s an Android tablet-specific companion app to round out your second screen experience.

Be warned: There are no full episodes available here. But, you will find show video clips, photo galleries, and perhaps most useful, a full channel guide that allows you to set alerts for when your favorite shows air.

The app also provides special alerts to Syfy happenings outside the tube like Comic-Con events, Ghost Hunters Live, and Destination Truth Live.

Moxier Mail for Tablet – Trial (Free)

Don’t let your IT department tell you different – tablets are made for work too.

Moxier Mail lets you get up close and personal with your MS Exchange ActiveSync corporate email. The app delivers your inbox, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes in a tablet-and-touch design.

A widget shows your latest new stuff on the home screen and the app supports 57 different languages. The free trial allows access to your mail for two weeks.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition ($6.92)

Like a game without winners? If the cult hit Minecraft does have rules and winners someone will have to explain it to me ‘cause I don’t get it.

In any case, if you love to build things out of cubes, this is your app. This pocket edition lets you create to your heart’s content in cool 3D landscapes with an unlimited block supply.

Choose a prime location for your structure – next to water is nice – then use different textures for your cubes to add style.
