Fresh Android Apps for July 6: Bloomberg for Tablet, Big Time Gangsta, Diversion

by Ian Black

It’s a short workweek so just hang on and it will be the weekend again before you know it. Steal a few minutes to check your investments (Bloomberg for Tablet), scope out your tween’s new favorite inappropriate game (Big Time Gangsta), or divert yourself (Diversion).

Bloomberg for Tablet (Free)

What’s a great use for tablets? Tracking the stock market. The bigger screens provide the real estate required for ticker symbols, graphs, news and other financial info. And, you can glance over at the tablet while you do other work on your PC. Enter Bloomberg for Tablet.

This tablet edition is currently a super-sized version of the already available Bloomberg Android app for phones. It delivers big pie charts of the markets and the latest news from Bloomberg. Of course, you can load your own portfolio and watch it rise and fall with the market.

Big Time Gangsta (Free)

Fascinated by street thugs? Here’s your chance to live the tough life of the hood within the safety of your mobile device.

Plan your takeover of the city block by block. Build your gang from the ex-cons and wanted criminals cruising the streets, and then arm them with the latest weapons for your robberies and battles against rival gangs.

3D shootouts and maps of the city help glamorize the sick violence. OpenFeint supports allows you to share your questionable taste in games with your friends.

Diversion (Free)

This game takes the typical platform side-scroller and throws in a couple of twists. First, it’s 3D, so you get some interesting views while leaping from platform to platform. Next, it adds unusual features like swimming and flying to the traditional running and jumping.

Then, Diversion just delivers more of everything. More characters for you to unlock (over 150), more levels (100+), more worlds (three different ones) and more obstacles to challenge you (laser cannons, mini-bosses, and full-on boss battles to complete a level).

Your iPhone-owning friends might have already played it, but it’s fresh on Android this month.
