Fresh Android Apps for June 2: AMEX OPEN Forum, Hockey Fight Pro, MrMixit FREE

by Ian Black

Maybe LinkedIn won’t be your only go-to mobile business app anymore. AMEX hits the Market with an OPEN Forum app that gives you a window into their small business resource. Read more below.

When it’s time to play, explore your hockey hero in Hockey Fight Pro or DJ star fantasies in MrMixit within the safe boundaries of your Android device.

American Express OPEN Forum (Free)

Entrepreneurs and small business owners have reason to celebrate. American Express just released a new free Android app that provides access to their OPEN Forum portal.

Watch full screen videos from technology evangelist and start-up advisor Guy Kawasaki and others. Read articles in a variety of small business-related categories such as innovation, lifestyle, managing, marketing, money, and the world. You can also bookmark stories for reading later or share them through Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. And, of course, you can search for articles that interest you via keyword.

The iPhone version of this app connects to Apple TV via AirPlay so let’s hope that future version’s of this Android app connects to Google TV.

Hockey Fight Pro ($1.02)

Have you heard about the pub owner in Ireland whose business was failing until he showed only hockey fights on the bar’s TVs? Then, the place was packed every night. True story.

This game also distills the famous blood sport down to just the fights – not the hockey. Choose your player’s team uniform and strengths – speed, stamina, strength, etc. – again, not for sport, just for duking it out, then throw down the gloves and start punching.

You know you’re doing well when you knock the other player’s helmet off or see his blood stain the rink. You’ve won when you knock him to the ice. Share your lack of sportsmanship over Facebook and Twitter.

MrMixit FREE (Free)

At the very least this game gets credit for trying something new.

You control two turntables. Drag down the graffiti-like logos from the dance floor and then you’re ready to play. Spin, tweak, and scratch the turntables until the cross-cut graphics create the finished graffiti image that’s your goal. Need more of a challenge? You’ll have to beat the clock! Of course, all your DJ moves affect the techno soundtrack that blasts through the game as you play.

This free demo version is brand new on the demo market. But, if you want the full version, with more levels, it’ll cost you a buck.
