Fresh Android Apps for May 13: Netflix, TrackChecker

by Ian Black

Is it hot in here or is that just my phone? Things are heating up in the Android Market. First HBO, then ESPN, and now Netflix streams video to Android devices. I love it when my phone becomes more powerful while I do nothing. Need more? TrackChecker tracks packages from just about every delivery service on the planet.

Netflix (Free)

Boom! So long sad little Netflix app that only let you update your queue. We want to stream video – and now we can.

Check off another major feature gap between iOS and Android. Apple’s iPhone and iPad had Netflix streaming and the rest of the world was jealous. The latest update delivers unlimited streaming and allows you pick up on your device where you left off on your TV or computer. You must, of course, be a Netflix subscriber.

Please note that the Android Market’s description states this app currently only supports playback on six different phone (five HTC models and one Samsung) so some may have to wait a little longer.

It may be better to give than receive, but this app will let you track packages in either direction.

Track several packages at once across multiple shipping companies. Use the home screen widget to keep you updated without jumping to the app. The app automatically highlights the delivery date, can sort and filter by several criteria, and can add a new package to track by scanning its barcode with your phone’s camera.

The app supports over 70 shipping business around the world including DHL, UPS, and FedEx.
