by Ian Black

Get your headline news updates (CNN), control your PC (Unified Remote) or stay in touch (Life.Contacts) with today’s fresh Android apps

CNN App for Android Phones (Free)

Raise your hand if you’re addicted to CNN for news updates.

The CNN App for Android Phones has arrived. Through it, you can watch live video from the network, listen to CNN radio, get breaking news updates on your phone’s home screen, and set filters for headlines to see on the CNN Widget.

But we all know it’s better to give than receive, so send in your own news story to their iReport section.

Unified Remote Full ($4.00)

Get your phone and your PC talking together to get more stuff done.

This app turns your Android phone into a touchscreen remote control for your home or work computer. It uses Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to communicate. From there, you can control your PC’s mouse, sound volume, switch apps with a swipe gesture, and much more.

A free version of this app lets you try before you buy.

Life.contacts Beta (Free)

Think Sony Ericsson is snoozing through the mobile industry boom? Think again.

Life.contacts, currently in Beta, lets you back-up your contacts to the web and pull pictures from Facebook for those without images in your contacts directory. For easy communication, your most frequent contacts appear on your home screen and missed calls or text messages will be sent to you via email

Tell Sony Ericsson what you think to help them improve the app.
