KakaoTalk for Android offers free multimedia messaging worldwide

by Kate Currin

I downloaded the free KakaoTalk app for Android to my Motorola Droid X, and then downloaded the free app on my boyfriend's iPhone as well. The app immediately found me as a connection on his phone — super handy! We proceeded to test it by sending each other silly pictures, voice recordings, videos and random chats while sitting side-by-side on the couch. Yes, that's our geeky app life. It was fun, and the messages and videos were sent at equally lightning speed!

This is great for folks with unlimited data plans and not-so-unlimited text messages. Plus, I think pictures were sent way faster than via a multimedia text message. I tested it out again the next day at work, periodically checking in with my man via chat. It was the perfect free mobile way to keep in touch all day without taxing our text message plans.

You can also chat with multiple friends in a chat room at one time — something you can't do via text message.

Overall, this free communication app is easy and intuitive to use. I had no problems signing-up with my cell number and receiving the verification code via text, which came immediately on both phones. The app sends you alerts just like you would get with a text message, so you never miss a chat!
