Fresh Android Apps for Apr. 15: SI - Tablet, Communicate, Regina 3D Launcher

by Ian Black

Think the iPad has all the magazines? Not so. Check out Sports Illustrated for Android tablets in today’s fresh apps. Also, Communicate lets you translate conversations in real time, and Regina 3D Launcher customizes your Android home screens.

Sports Illustrated – Tablet (Free)

Love SI but over paper magazines? It’s your lucky day.

Sports Illustrated Digital Edition has arrived in the Android Market. It’s only for Android-based tablets like the Motorola Xoom. You’ll find exclusive photo galleries, live scores and news feeds, original video essays, interviews, and commentaries especially created for this edition.

You can subscribe to the digital edition, or add the digital version to your paper subscription via this app.

Communicate (Free)

Google Translate for Android supports real-time conversation translation in English and Spanish. This app does the same thing for English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian.

Stand next to your conversation partner and hold your Android between you. Using speech to text, translation, and text to speech technology, the phone becomes your personal interpreter.

Go travel and have a conversation.

Regina 3D Launcher (Free)

There’s been a lot of buzz about SPB Shell 3D Launcher, but here’s a competitor.

Regina 3D lets you rotate through 3D menu screens with a flick of your finger. Pinching brings up a tile view of all your screens. Create secret screens of apps you don’t want others to see. Uninstall apps right from the menu screens. Post separate wallpaper for each screen.

It’s free so check it out for yourself.
