Fresh Android Apps for Feb. 11: Twitter and Urbanspoon updates, Blogger

by Ian Black

Version 2.0 for apps means the chance for a new beginning. Two of today’s fresh apps arrive as 2.0 updates with a host of improvements over their earlier releases – Twitter and UrbanSpoon. Google rounds out today’s freshies with Blogger for Android.

Twitter update (Free)

Love to tweet? The official Twitter app just got an update to version 2.0. So, what do you get? Several important new features: A new UI and navigation make it easier to tour through the app and the service. You can also scan your contacts to find your friends who are already using Twitter.

The app also adds autocomplete @usernames when tweeting, a universal search of the whole service,  a much improved process for uploading photos and faster tweet actions when retweeting, replying, following and more.

Urbanspoon update (Free)

Born with an Urbanspoon in your mouth? The iPhone app made famous in a TV commercial just got an update on Android. A new user interface gives you easier access to exciting eateries in your environs.

In this release, you can quickly narrow the results to a city or local region. One tap brings you to reviews of the current restaurant highlighted in the big ol’ food slot machine. Finally, the app fixes many bugs from the prior release.

Blogger (Free)

Some may claim that blogging is dead, but not Google. They just released the official Blogger app for Android. Manage your blog posts on the go with this cool tool. You can handle multiple blog accounts and switch between them on the fly.

You can insert a picture already on your phone or snap a new one right through the app. You can also add labels and location info with just a tap. Save your brilliant words for later posting, or publish them instantly. Lastly, the app lets you view your saved and already published posts in a list.
