Fresh Android Apps for Feb. 8: MathBuddy, Oysterpedia, Accellemouse

by Ian Black

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. To prep, get your homework done early with MathBuddy, study up on aphrodisiacs with Oysterpedia, and impress your sweetheart with your nerd power using Acellemouse.

MathBuddy (Free)

Check over your math homework with this powerful math assistant. The app performs common and useful calculations like area, common factors between two numbers, quadratic roots, midpoint, perimeter, slope of a line, volume of a cube, cone, cylinder, and sphere.

Handwriting recognition allows you to draw the numbers as input to the formulas. A display at the top shows the formula currently being calculated.

Oysterpedia ($1.99)

Did you know there are over 200 types of oysters along the coasts of North America? This app provides reference information for them all.

Created by a seafood restaurant in NYC but useful for any oyster fan, this app shows a picture, the name, size, location, flavor profile, and detailed notes every oyster along both the east and west coasts. Save your favorites to "My Oysters" and bring the app to your next raw bar outing.

Accellemouse – Remote Mouse (~$2.72)

I think using your phone as a computer mouse is cool. A couple of apps have delivered this feature. Here is the latest one. Download the companion software to your PC then follow the instructions to connect this app to your PC.

The accelerometer of your phone controls the cursor on your PC screen. Click the left or right buttons on the app to click the mouse buttons.
