Fresh Android Apps for Jan. 7: French Class, The Beer Expert, Gourmet Recipe Lite

by Ian Black

For decades you could only find experts in universities or in businesses. Then, experts popped up on the Internet. Now, you can download experts onto your Android – like in these fresh apps.

French Class Demo (Free)

Parlez-vous Francais? Learn French anywhere with French Class Demo. The app categorizes reference material into vocabulary, verbs, and grammar. Toggle your study guides between English to French or vice versa. After studying, test yourself – it’s a class after all – with quizzes in all areas. The app tracks your score so that you can treat it like a game and go for a high score.

The free demo covers a semester of the class. The full version costs around $2.60 and there are other languages available.

The Beer Expert ($2.99)

Love beer? Who doesn’t! If all you drink are the usual suspects – like Bud and Miller – you don’t need this app. The app claims to have database of over 300,000 beers. Scan the bar code of a beer, or type and say its name, and it shows you a complete description, picture, and reviews.

Save beers you like to your favorites or read the "Tips and Hints" section on pursing your beer passion more effectively.

Gourmet Recipe Lite (Free)

Gourmet Heartbeat has gathered up thousands of recipes from Michelin-rated chefs. Sort the list by "Diet Choices," "Course," "Occasions," or "Cuisine." View the recipes in text form or watch the chefs themselves talk you through the cooking in video form. This free lite version features many recipes but the full version will cost you just 99 cents.
