3D takeover for Android games

by Kristen Nicole

Android games are tapping into the third dimension.

Another RPG launch on Android in recent weeks, with Pocket Legends bringing its 3D worlds to your mobile. The game is full of colorful characters, bartering and battling their way through the land. Free, the beta launch of Pocket Legends comes with a consignment shop, custom avatars and leaderboards.

Another 3D push comes from Hexage, which has updated several of its games to the third dimension. Everlands and EVAC are among the promoted Android titles, though Totemo HD is my favorite of the bunch. Grab them now, as Hexage has put its new HD games on sale until November 12.

Expect to see more involved games in a real 3D sense, with Qualcom’s new Augmented Reality game development tool. The new AR, currently in beta, will enable developers to create game overlays with real world scenes and other background capabilities, for a uniquely realistic experience. The area is still growing, but it’s one distinctly associated with the mobile gaming industry, so it’s also an area of vast opportunity.

Back to the 2D future

Tiger SNES offers old school games in the 2D realm, but that doesn’t make them any less fun. It’s a personal library of Super Nintendo titles on your Android, like Super Mario Kart and Donkey Kong. Can’t get enough of these classics? Try out this emulator for free, but watch out for bugs as its Tiger SNES’s early version release.
