New Android apps worth downloading: NBC, Humble Bundle (Beta), Dumb Ways to DIe

by Andrew Koziara

NBC has launched an official app, letting you watch all the best NBC programming totally for free on your Android device, albeit with some ads. The ultra renown Humble Bundle games for charity service has a new dedicated app for all of those Mobile/Android bundles they’ve released in all this time. Finally, we get a game version of the beloved song/video/ad campaign, Dumb Ways to Die, and it’s great fun.

NBC (Free)

What’s it about? Turn your Android device into a portable version of the NBC channel with full episodes of your favorite NBC shows.

What’s cool? Pretty much the entire modern NBC library is available to you through this app, whether you want to laugh at the crazy antics in Community and Jimmy Fallon, watch reality shows like The Voice and America’s Got Talent, or laugh at the crazy antics Hannibal! You have access to subscriptions and favorites, plus the actual TV schedule, all for free. The catch? You’ll be watching just as many commercials as you would on a DVR-less TV. Also the app is having some compatibility issues with various devices, but still, that’s a whole lot of free content to enjoy on your own time.

Who’s it for? Fans of NBC shows. Not really many other demographics.

What’s it like? Various other channels also offer this kind of service, like Fox or The CW.

Humble Bundle (Free)

What’s it about? After several Android Humble Bundles, you can now access, download, and manage all your Humble Bundle purchases with ease.

What’s cool? The Humble Bundle itself is cool. Seriously cool. You pay whatever price you want for great batches of games, with the proceeds going to charity. And right alongside the Humble Mobile Bundle 2, we now have this app, making it easier than ever to download and install your Android compatible games to your device. The app is technically only in Beta, but it works great, and all you have to do is log in to your Humble Bundle account. If you’re an indie game maniac like myself, your life has just been made that much easier by this app.

Who’s it for? Humble Bundle users. Future Humble Bundle users.

What’s it like? I actually can’t really think of anything all that similar for once.

Dumb Ways to Die (Free)

What’s it about? It’s a game based on one of the most delightfully amusing public service ad campaigns ever, courtesy of Metro Trains.

What’s cool? Not all that long ago, Metro Trains launched a great series of public service announcement advertisements advocating safety in and around Metro trains and train stations. If you haven’t seen the music video yet, go watch it right now. I kind of spoiled the surprise already by telling you it’s a train safety video, which isn’t even brought up until the end. That campaign, and those adorable little dead dancing people, have now been transformed into a game! Or rather, a collection of mini-games pertaining to each one’s particular cause of death. It wont win any game of the year awards, but it’s every bit as charming and entertaining as the song.

Who’s it for? People who like simple games based on insanely viral ad campaigns they’ve probably already seen.

What’s it like? I can recommend other mini-game collections, such as MiniGame Paradise, or Pix’n Love Rush
