Scoutmob Android app offers deals from locally-owned businesses

by Kate Currin

Are you a big fan of daily deals as well as restaurant and event recommendations? The free Scoutmob app for Android combines all those awesome features into one handy app, although it’s available in all cities yet. I live in Chicago, and admit that I have not heard of the majority of places that the Scoutmob offers deals for right off the bat. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about what is hip and new in my city, and this was a little disconcerting to me. Is it me or the app? So reading a little further into the app’s “About Us” section, I discovered they choose locally-owned businesses that “we love” to feature for their deals.

The Scoutmob app offers deals for more than just restaurants. There are deals for boutiques, too. The “Happenings” section is even better, highlighting events around the city you are exploring with the app.  This was noticeably empty (so was the “Articles” section) for Chicagoans when I used the app for this review.

However, do we really need another deal app? I love that they are concentrating on locally-owned businesses, but they need to highlight that more in the app. If you are totally addicted to deal apps then go ahead and check this one out. If you are already over Groupon then simply steer clear of Scoutmob, for now.
