by Marty Gabel

In today’s Fresh Apps, prepare for the next major golf tournament with The 2012 Open Championship Android app and get all the latest news and updates from Royal Lytham & St Annes. We’ve also got World Series of Poker from EA Games where you can try your hand at a variety of poker games and see if you can rise in the ranks to take on the pros.

The 2012 Open Championship (Free)

The next major PGA tournament starts later this week at Royal Lytham & St Annes on the northwest coast of England. It’s the 141st British Open and you can follow all the action live with this official Android app from the Royal & Ancient.

From Thursday, the app will feature up-to-the-minute live scores direct from the tournament, video highlights and a guide to the course itself. There will also be live radio coverage from holes 9, 10 and 11 plus some unique behind-the-scenes views from professional golf’s oldest major tournament.

World Series of Poker (Free)

Yep, it’s a big deal. Electronic Arts have finally released the popular iPhone and iPad game, World Series of Poker, into Google Play. It offers a pretty authentic card-playing experience and it’s free to download, but you will need to log-in with Facebook to join in (much to the chagrin of many, though EA say ‘guest mode’ is coming soon).

World Series of Poker lets you try your hand at Texas Hold’em, Omaha Poker and other versions, and as you progress and become a professional, you’ll face more and more challenging players. You can use your winnings to buy-in to higher-stake tables and track all your statistics to gain a competitive edge on your opponents.
