Check out appoLearning.com, because your kids deserve the very best educational apps!
Kick off the new week with Radiolab, the official app of the NPR radio show and podcast that’s sure to provide plenty of food for thought. Next up is CrowdStream, a cool way to check-in at live music shows and experience exclusive content. Finally, stretch out those hamstrings with the official London 2012 Olympics game.
If you’ve never heard this podcast from WNYC, you owe it to yourself to give it a listen. These 20-minute shows are fascinating insights into the human mind, or as hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich describe them “wonder, curiosity and big ideas.” Though these podcasts can be heard via an app like Stitcher, it’s great to see Radiolab get its own dedicated Android app, too.
The Radiolab app extends the listening experience beyond the podcasts. Not only can you listen to every broadcast, you can make your own audio effects, text and photos based on specific requests from the hosts and upload them via Soundcloud. Also, there are blog postings and push notifications of news, new episodes and Radiolab events.
CrowdStream is all about connecting music fans with both the entertainers themselves and other fans at events. The app lets you check-in at events on your mobile device and get access to photos, messages and videos. A lot of this content is exclusive for CloudStream users, too.
The app has already partnered with big names in the music industry including Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Neon Trees, The Wanted and others. Even if you can't make it to the gig, you can check-in “virtually” to interact with fans at the show and see the stream of content from the event.
As momentum builds up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London next month, there will be a wealth of app tie-ins to investigate. Already, there’s an official app available, and now we have an official game from developer Neowiz with a bizarre lack of spaces in its title.
The games looks like it has stylized Wii Sports-style graphics and offers nine different events including sprint, hurdles, swimming, shooting, triple jump, pole vault, kayaking and archery. You can customize your athlete with over 200 items and there are three game modes to enjoy in a number of authentic London 2012 Olympic venues. Another version is available for $2.99 with 3,000 coins and extra stamina points.
