Fresh Android Apps for June 12: Charity Miles and Monsters Ate My Condo

by Marty Gabel

Now you can stay fit and contribute to charity at the same time with your Android in hand. Check out Charity Miles for the full scoop on an app that can help you do just that. When you’re done exercising, relax (kind of) with the fun and frantic Monsters Ate My Condo, an addicting match-three game with plenty of humor and style.

Charity Miles (Free)

Charity Miles empowers you to earn money for charities while walking, running or biking. All you need to do is select the charity of your choice and as you walk, run or bike, the app will track your progress by GPS and donate money to charity. You get 10¢ for every mile you bike and 25¢ for every mile you run or walk.

There are nine charities to choose from, including Achilles International, Autism Speaks, Feeding America and Habitat for Humanity. More charities are scheduled to be added in the future. There are a few complaints that you need to link the app to your Facebook to use it (and it posts to your wall), but for those who think that’s a small price to pay, the cause is certainly worthy.

Monsters Ate My Condo ($0.99)

Another iOS favorite just hit Google Play, this time from the twisted imaginations of Adult Swim and PikPok Games. At its simplest, Monsters Ate My Condo is a match-three puzzle game, but its quirky premise and presentation, along with its humor and addicting gameplay, make it a cut above others games of the same genre.

The premise: four ferocious monsters are on a rampage and only residential high-rises will satisfy their boundless hunger (naturally). Using swipe controls, you need to match the colored floors which feed the creatures and prevent the destruction of all humankind. The action gets fast and frantic pretty quickly, and it’s all presented in a crazy, psychedelic style which keeps you hooked.
