Fresh Android Apps for June 11: Foursquare, HD Widgets, Aqua Story

by Brad Spirrison

In today’s Fresh Android Apps, we look at how Foursquare’s new face-lift plays on Android, tap into a new update from HD Widgets, and go underwater with the latest title from Com2Us. Let’s do this.

Foursquare 5.0 (Free)

As social networking behemoths Facebook and LinkedIn deal with adversity, another social networking stalwart is giving itself a facelift.

Location-based networking pioneer foursquare today debuts a dramatically new look and feel, which include version 5.0 updates for iOS and Android devices.

Here is a glimpse of the app via foursquare propaganda. We like what we see so far, and think the new design will appeal to both existing users and others who are still learning the vocabulary and nuances of location-based behavior. To date, foursquare has more than 20 million active users.

Among the key additions to the 5.0 update are a brand new friends tab, better ways to locate and contact friends nearby, faster check-ins and a cleaner design and UI.

At least for the time being, foursquare app updates are limited to iOS and Android. BlackBerry and Windows users will need to wait at least a few weeks.

HD Widgets (3.0 Beta) (99 cents)

With its brand new 3.0 beta update, HD Widgets is one of the best customization apps available in the Ice Cream Sandwich era. The weather, clock and toggle options will appeal to Android enthusiasts and beginners alike.

Although this app technically is in beta, there are very few (if any) blemishes we have experienced so far. One helpful tip is to restart your phone after you install the app. From there, just be yourself and make your Android device an extension of who you are.

Aqua Story (Free)

This new app from from Com2Us provides all the benefits of owning an aquarium (without having anything to clean up along the way)!

The game, already a hit in Korea, offers stunning graphics, reliable controls, and a toggle of sorts between saltwater and freshwater fish.
