Fresh Android Apps for May 16: Someecards Free, Ninja Chicken Ooga Booga, Pyramid Rising

by Ian Black

Who says apps have to be serious? The fresh Someecards app turns the e-card phenomenon up to 11 on the funny scale with jokes you can send to those you love (or just tolerate).

For fun, check out Chicken Ninja Ooga Booga, the sequel to the popular chicken hero game, and Pyramid Rising, which transports the you-build-it game craze back to ancient Egypt.

Someecards Free (Free)

Humor remains one of the best survival tools out there. Get your daily dose of laughter and send some to friends and family with this new app from a popular comedy web site. Imagine the Sincerely Ink app run by the writers of Saturday Night Live.

Select and forward funny e-cards from categories like topical news, flirting, workspace, “cry for help”, and even cards that make fun of Android devices. For example, “Here’s hoping your workday doesn’t feel as long as Jessica Simpson’s pregnancy.” Save your list of favorites away in the app and keep checking back for new updates. A home screen widget will alert you to the new arrivals.

Ninja Chicken Ooga Booga (Free)

The little chicken that dreamed she was a ninja is back! The farmer and other animals thought she was delusional, but she proved herself by saving the day and now she’s returned to action, wearing her little black mask,  because the farm is in grave danger.

The chicken’s super powers include running, jumping, sliding and riding a zip line in side-scroller fashion. This adventure tasks place on a tropical island so she’ll face new obstacles including spears and totems, but her arch enemy remains The Evil Dog from the first edition only now he wears a cute tropical hula skirt.

Expect 24 new levels with mini-game surprises at the end of each one and a new Caribbean soundtrack.

Pyramid Rising (Free)

And you thought running the mob was tough! Here, the you-build-it genre goes old-school (as in ancient), when you’re appointed assistant to royal Egyptian architect Senmut with the task of rebuilding the area around the Nile River.

Manage your resources wisely – including hiring workers and gathering stone – so that you can build structures and upgrade the village. Be warned: there’s a time limit for each level. If you beat the deadline you can earn Golden Scarabs, but if you blow it, the angry god Amen-Ra might destroy Egypt. No pressure!

An in-app purchase unlocks the full 40 levels of the game. Buy the Chaos on the Nile pack and get 15 more.
