AMC Theaters (Free)
Movie-going may have gone through a slump in 2011, but it’s far from dead. Return to the theaters by browsing your options, watching trailers, perusing the cast, scanning the social commentary of other movie fans, and then purchasing tickets right in the app.
You can also find AMC locations nearby, look over a list of special offers, or manage your AMC Stubs rewards points. AMC Theaters first launched in 1929 says the app’s description and with this app, they’ve joined the 21st century.
Gangster Rio: City of Saints ($6.99)
Rio de Janeiro isn’t all beaches and bare bum cheeks. In this game, you’ll encounter the dark side of five neighborhoods including the favelas, a business district, a jungle, and oh yeah, a beach. You play a betrayed gangster who’s out for revenge. Along the way, you’ll need to hunt the wicked and punish the guilty which means crazy car chases, nail-biting shoot-outs, knife fights, and bare knuckle brawls – and that’s all before things turn ugly.
Fortunately, the main character has access to handguns, rifles, bazookas, and grenades and knows how to drive Italian sports cars, helicopters, tanks and other vehicles. As the app description says, “see Rio…and fight!”
Dystopian Hacking (Free)
This game works like Breakout for the cyberspace generation. It’s got all the classic moves of a brick-buster-style of game but includes modern controls – tilt or touch your device – and unique puzzles and power-ups that take it to the next level. To throw you off further, the game features moving block “snakes” and endless levels of dropping bricks.
Feel inspired? Then create your own level with the in-app level editor. The game’s backstory says this puzzles are the cyber-protection of a corrupt government and that you are a righteous hacker. Go get ‘em!
