Fresh Android Apps for Mar. 23: Kindle update, Zecco Mobile, NBA Jam by EA Sports

by Ian Black

In today’s fresh Android apps, you can get the “big picture” with the new update of Kindle for Android, get money smart with Zecco Mobile, and play some comical basketball in NBA Jam by EA Sports.

Kindle update (Free)

The most important feature of this Kindle app update is the new support for Kindle 8 file format used by Amazon to display rich graphical content for children’s books, comic books, and graphic novels. Expect a bunch of fresh titles using this format already available in the store and more to come.

Need more? Now when you send a personal document to your Kindle via your Kindle email address, it’s automatically stored in Amazon’s cloud and can re-downloaded at your request to other Kindle devices attached to your account.

Zecco Mobile (Free)

Go mobile with your investments in the market. This app lets you trade stock, options and mutual funds while out and about. You’ll find the user interface very visual with charts and graphics showing your portfolio, the market, and individual stock’s performance over time. The landscape mode makes the graphs go widescreen.

You’ll need an account with Zecco Trading but you won’t need to log-in every time you launch the app. Explore the Zecco community for tips and trends in trading.

NBA Jam by EA Sports ($4.99)

Go old school with new re-creation of a classic arcade game. Play 2-on-2 basketball against NBA legends or vie for hoop-stardom playing your friends in multiplayer mode. If you played the original game, you’ll fondly remember the “big head” aspect of large photo-realistic heads on smaller cartoon graphic bodies. It’s both funny and fun and accurately recreated here.

Don’t expect the most realistic basketball. In addition to the acrobatic dunks, you can unlock a level of “outrageous cheats” that the description says will make you comment, “That can’t be legal!”
