Fresh Android Apps for Mar. 20: Bobsled Calling for Tablets, Fitbit, Spit’em All

by Ian Black

It’s officially spring! Prepare for some serious attitude adjustment by downloading some fresh Android apps. Make voice-over-IP calls using Bobsled Calling for Tablets, get in shape with Fitbit, and let one fly in Spit’em all – Free.

Bobsled Calling for Tablets (Free)

Need more options for communicating? Bobsled lets you call or text chat with others on Android devices, or using an iPhone, iPod or iPad over Facebook. Better still, the people you reach out to don’t need to have any phone number.

This app comes optimized for big-screen Honeycomb Android tablets. Early reviews say the design works well. It uses your Facebook account to gather a list of your friends and your friends’ Facebook walls as the place to post your Bobsled voice messages.

Fitbit (Free)

Getting into shape and losing weight requires a plan. It also helps to note down your progress toward your goals. Enter Fitbit. This app aims to track both your food intake and, with the purchase a separate tracker device, your body motion.

Enter the food you eat and the app will count the calories for you, then show you how many remain before you reach your daily goal. Review your day’s meal specifics and view a thermometer of how much water you consumed.

Buy a wireless 3-D Fitbit Tracker and the app will show you how many steps, general movement, and activity level you attain on a daily basis.

If for nothing else, this game gets points for originality. Main character Johnny, a hormonal youth, wakes up in a bad mood and decides to take his angst out on the world below his urban dwelling by spiting out the window.

You slide Johnny back and forth along his windowsill and set the power of each spit so that it lands on cars, buses, taxis, and pedestrians on the street floors below. Make the mistake of spitting on a passing police car and you’ll be “busted!” with an end of game. Expect cool graphics, easy controls and low-brow humor.
