Android owners with Instagram-envy who can’t wait to get the blockbuster photo-sharing app on their device will soon have their dream come true.

Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom showed off a version of the app over the weekend at SXSW (although a full-fledged demo will have to wait).

“In some ways, it’s better than our iOS app. It’s crazy,” said Systrom, of the app which now has more than 27 million registered users.

Systrom did not talk about the numerous reports indicating that Instagram, which only raised a few hundred grand to launch, is in the process of closing a $40 million venture capital round at a (gulp) $500 million valuation.

Stay tuned.

Cooool beans. I'm not one to take many pictures, but I know this is a big thing and it's good to hear it's coming to Android. I'm tired of Apple fanboys (not to be confused with just regular fans) pretending Android is barely a blip on the radar. The lack of major apps, like Instagram, bolsters their false assessment.
