Fresh Android Apps for Feb. 7: Draw Something Free, Transparent Screen, The Lost City

by Ian Black

Only a few days left until Valentine’s Day. Draw your sweetie a beautiful picture (Draw Something Free), look for a romantic spot while out and about (Transparent Screen), and plan a getaway to a secret location (The Lost City).

Draw Something Free (Free)

More chances to embarrass celebrities on airplanes! If Words with Friends plays like Hangman, then Draw Something works like Pictionary. You’re given the assignment to communicate a “word” to your online opponent through drawing in this turn-based addictive game. How well can you draw?

Invite friends to play through Facebook, Twitter or email or let the app pick a random player. Use the drawing tools that include a color palette, erasers and a pen and you’re off. When it’s your turn to guess, the game will alert you. If you’re stumped, press the bomb button to blow up the word and get a new one.

Transparent Screen (Free)

Distracted pedestrian alert! We’ve read the headlines – bus hits preoccupied smartphone user. Don’t let that be you! This app performs a public health service by allowing you to see through your device’s camera viewfinder while using your phone.

Use the app’s setting to choose whether or not the app launches when you start your phone, set the transparency level, and pick the resolution and rotation of the camera’s image. If you still run into trouble while on the go with your device, there is a final radical solution – put your phone away!

The Lost City ($1.99)

You won’t find this beautiful 3-D destination on your standard travel website. Your grandma told you and others about this magical place whose ancient inhabitants once controlled the seasons, but neither you nor anyone else believed her.

Nonetheless, your grandma left you an artifact in her will. And, when you stumble upon this mysterious city, the object comes alive. Find the clues, solve the puzzles in this adventure game, and unlock the secrets of the Lost City.
