Fresh Android Apps for Dec. 29: Hot Light, Lair Defense, Zombie Fishing

by Ian Black

Did you get a new Android device for Christmas or Hanukkah? Use it to find a tasty snack (Hot Light), protect some dragon eggs (Lair Defense), or help a little undead boy find his next meal (Zombie Fishing).

Hot Light (Free)

Over the past few years, Krispy Kreme has retreated slightly, closing some of its stores. But it isn’t dead yet. Download this app to learn when its famous “hot light” is on at a location near you. The light indicates fresh sweet donuts are being made on the spot.

Set alerts to be notified of active “hot lights” from a specific location or choose to be pinged whenever you drive near a Krispy Kreme with the light on. Need directions? Got that! Want to invite others? Click the Facebook or Twitter icon.

Lair Defense (Free)

There be dragons! Did you know that once upon a time humans and dragons lived together peacefully, until one powerfully-hungry king decided that dragon eggs were the key to immortality? Neither did I.

In this tower defense-style game, you side with the dragons and must protect the lair at all costs. Choose from a gallery of dragons with special powers, like ice to freeze invaders, fire to burn them, or poison to – oh, you get the idea. Position your dragons strategically to repel the humans, upgrade posts and add more during the next attack wave. Beware: Some of the humans know magic spells!

Zombie Fishing (Free)

Not all humans like the same kind of food and the same holds true for zombies. The little undead tyke of this game prefers fish brains over human and will spend hours at the ‘ol fishing hole looking for a meal.

The gameplay combines virtual fishing and Fruit Ninja-style slashing. First, you nab fish by moving the line with your finger to hook them, then, when they flip up in the air, slice them until the fish blood flows. You’ll find 20 different kinds of fish and lots of water to explore.
