SUMMARY: Control your phone through SMS

Check out appoLearning.com, because your kids deserve the very best educational apps!

SMS Commander is an app for the Android platform that lets you do quite a bit with your Android phone through text message. Unfortunately during our review, we couldn’t get all of the features of this app to work.

This app is very similar to Force Dial, except it has more features. What you need to do when you download this app is set a passcode. Once you do that, you’re good to go. That code is the prefix to all the commands you’ll be able to use with this app. After you enter the passcode, you can then check out the mission briefing for the four commands you can send to the phone.

Those commands are: get location, ringer loud, ringer silent, and vibrate. You’ll need to text the string that the app tells you to your Android phone to get the desired effect. During the test, we unfortunately couldn’t get the app to locate us, it just kept crashing every time we tried.

This app is definitely handy and could be used as a way to keep tabs on a child if all of it works. Unfortunately the text messages do show up, so they’ll be able to see what you’re attempting to do and could always just change the passcode. Either way, remote control over your phone is definitely something useful for those times when you lose your phone and it’s on silent.
