SUMMARY: Find interesting areas at your location

Just when you thought there couldn’t be any more location services for Android, a couple more pop onto the grid. It seems that Android can never use enough apps for searching businesses.

The latest app to reach my eye is Poynt. This app, as you probably can guess, is focused primarily on guiding people to businesses, movies, gas stations, food, and more. The app uses a spinning set of icons to display the various categories you can search by. It also displays the weather at the bottom of the screen. That’s pretty much where the differences between this app and others stop. Once in the search mode, the app has a useful scrolling section at the top of the screen that will filter your results by topic whether it be by movie, gas station, or restaurant.

Although this app does offer quite a bit, I still personally prefer the standard maps app for finding what I need. Still, this format may come in handy for someone who wants to read a little bit more about a place and hear other's opinions. The app is free in the Android market, so check it out and learn something new about your location.

This Poynt is kinda sucky for the HTC ARIA it does not update your location. It did it the first time only. After that you have to manually enter a zip code. The yellowbook app is way more functional.
