The New York Times is still a very large publication in the US despite the slow overtaking of online news media. One factor that has kept this publication in prominence is its willingness to adapt to new mediums and accept social media as an outlet.
The Android version of the New York Times app has been released and offers the entire extent of what the publication can offer. Users can view their favorite section from the Sports section right down to the Obituaries if that somehow is your favorite section. The app makes great use of the Android software model by incorporating its own version of the pull down menu. Users can change the section displayed in seconds by pulling the menu down from the top and selecting a new topic. This was a great feature I've rarely seen in Android apps although the app still seemed to be missing something. There was no search function available which made it hard to look for an older news story I might want to find. Users also could not save articles for later viewing which was kind of disappointing. Other than those to things, this app was a definite grab and a great example of an Android app done right.
