Loopt is a location based social networking app that has made its way over to the Android platform. Loopt debuted on the iPhone earlier this year and gained a huge following giving them plenty of reason to make it available to Android users.
The app is broken down into four tabs: Map, List, Share, and Settings. Map will show you your location along with all of your friends locations. To see where your other friends are located all you need to do is tap on their picture at the bottom of the screen. This will shift the focus over to them. The list tab is where you can see the current message and location of you and your friends. You can also add new friends to your list from this tab as well. This is all handled by entering in the 10 digit phone number of your friend with the service. If you enter in the number and they already have Loopt, the app will tell you.
Share is the part of the app that lets you write a little blurb about what you’re up to. You can also set your location using the drop down menu and attach a picture as well. It’s up to you how deep you want to get with each update. The settings tab lets you configure your profile, attach your Facebook and Twitter to your account, and set your preferences as well. This is where you can determine how often you want your information updated and how often you want to be updated about your friends.
The Loopt network will connect all users with the app, regardless of device, together. The Android version unfortunately doesn’t have all the features that the iPhone version does, but considering it can run in the background, each device has its own set of advantages at this point. If you’re into local area social networking and have any friends who use this app on either device, definitely download Loopt to your Android phone.
