Locale is an app that let's you take control of the settings of your phone based on specific conditions that you can choose from. Locale essentially automates all of the functions that you would normally have to switch manually after you configure it to fit your needs.

There are two different areas of Locale that you'll need to setup: Default and Situations. Each one has a series of conditions you have to choose from. They are: Battery, Calendar, Contact, Location, and Time. Each one of these has their own series of options for you to configure. Once you configure the conditions you can move on to the settings tab. In this area you can pair changes and updates to your Network, Ringer Volume, Ringtone, Twitter, and Wallpaper to that specific Situation.

Where situations covers specific instances, default covers everything else. In default you can configure the base settings for Network, Ringer Volume, Ringtone, Twitter, and Wallpaper without worrying about any specific catalyst to set them off.

This is a really great app that makes using your phone a lot easier. You'll definitely need to spend some time configuring everything to just how you want it before you'll truly enjoy this app. After that, you won't even have to think about it until you need to add another situation to your list.

Use Time instead of GPS

For those who want to save their battery and may have GPS off during certain times of the day (i.e. you're in your house and don't need to be told where you are located), might find the time option of Locale as a more efficient choice.

When I am working Monday-Friday, I do not want my phone to be making noise while I'm on the clock, nor do I need the GPS service at that time. For this I simply made a "Work" situation with the time that I am working as the variable. I actually set it a few minutes early in case I am in the building early and don't want to disturb other workers. Since I take some classes at the university on Monday and Wednesday nights, I also have a situation set for those times called "Class". The biggest difference between the several situations I have is that some turn on or off the GPS and WiFi features (which are the ones that really drain your battery). I also have a couple situations I can manually turn on. My best example of this is for meetings, or my favorite "Trying to Sleep." In the latter, I have the screen brightness down at its lowest so it doesn't burn my eyes if I have to pick up the phone after being woken up. Also, I have a softer ringtone set that won't scare me out of my skin the way my alarm for work does.

The biggest tip I can offer is to make sure you set up a default profile (the button in the bottom right corner on the main screen). This is important because whenever no situation is scheduled to take effect (say, after work, almost class time, but not quite), Locale will automatically enable these settings. Good luck :)
