Quick, convenient meals aren't limited to just greasy burgers and TV dinners. They can be healthy and flavorful, too.
Jamie's 20 Minute Meals for Android is a database filled with recipes that use fresh ingredients, different kinds of veggies, meats and various spices. The recipes are organized by category (soup, meat, fish, vegetarian, salads, curries, stir-fries, pasta, risotto and desserts) or you can use the app's search option to find recipes by name or a dish's ingredients.
The app also features an interactive shopping list, which conveniently sorts items by supermarket aisle, audio tips from Jamie himself that play while you're cooking, and the option to adjust ingredients by the number of guests you're serving.
Where 20 Minute Meals really shines, though, is in its design. The app looks almost like a well put together scrapbook that sticks with more tasteful fonts and colors. My favorite part about the app is how it lays out the recipe cards. Every single recipe in the database includes a photo, summary, ingredients and steps—all separated by tabs and organized in such a way that's very easy to follow.
There are no videos for the individual recipes, but there are several how-to videos you can watch for helpful tid-bits or to enhance your skills in the kitchen. Within each recipe you’ll find links to the videos that will be most helpful with that particular recipe. For instance, a recipe for steamed salmon and basil couscous includes videos about what to look for when buying fresh fish, knife skills and how to secure a chopping board.
There's also a section called Essentials which includes videos and lists of information about important everyday kitchen items, from ingredients to equipment. The app does a great job explaining what these items are you should keep them on hand.
If you're new to the world of cooking, this is a great place to start, but it's also a great recipe resource for the experienced chef.
