Invariably, I never make it to my weekly yoga classes at my gym. With the Pocket Yoga app ($2.99) by RainFrog LLC for Android, I can fit in a yoga class at lunchtime in my office, while I wait for the pasta to boil at suppertime or quickly before bed. And the best part, at just $2.99, it costs a fraction of what a yoga class costs. Granted, I already pay my gym fee, but if I went to yoga across the street from work at lunch, it would cost me 10 bucks a pop.
This yoga app offers a picture glossary of poses as well as three different types of practices. I love the Ocean practice with its wavelike flow of strong postures and opening poses. The Desert practice is great for before bedtime because it works on flexibility and detoxification, and Mountain pose is perfect for a break at work with its power poses.
For each practice, you can choose from beginner, intermediate and expert, as well as follow voice instructions for each pose. There is accompanying music during the practices, which is sort of awful, so I put on my own "om" playlist — an easy change in the settings.
Once you pick your ideal practice, you select the time for your workout — from 30, 45 or 60 minutes. I love that you can press pause during the workouts at anytime and pick it up later with the "Workout in Progress" button. This is great for lunchtime workouts in the office when I need to grab a quick call before returning to a yoga pose. The app also keeps track of my yoga workout history, so I can keep up with my New Year's resolution to do yoga every day.
