Let Android app BeerWhere lead you to the closest pub

by Kate Currin

If you travel a lot and love tasty local beer selections, the free BeerWhere app is a must-have on your Android phone. A simple search by hitting the "My Location" selection within the app brings up the closest beer establishments like bars and pubs with quick links to driving or walking directions.

The app by default pulls up pubs, bars, homebrews, breweries and stores, which can be a little overwhelming if you're in a big city, like me. Use the "Filter" selection to narrow your target beer establishments, and narrow even more by changing the search radius. When viewing establishments in map or list mode, handy letters signify what type of establishment you're looking at, making it easier to narrow selections without changing your default settings.

While this beer-finder app provides a star rating system, there is not access to detailed reviews or information about the pubs, bars and stores beyond address and phone number. Even a simple favorite beer on tap would spice up each listing and give the overall BeerWhere app a little more pizzazz. If you want more information on a bar, you'll have to search using your phone's web browser, or download an app like Yelp for patron reviews.

If you're a road warrior and just looking for the closest watering hole in the town of the moment, then this beer-themed app is for you. If you're a discerning boozehound, you might want to look elsewhere for more-detailed reviews.
