A basketful of Android apps for a happy Easter

by Kristen Nicole

I picked up a bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs while grocery shopping the other day, an irresistible by-product of my love for Easter (and peanut butter). But sweet treats aside, Easter is one of the most revered holidays in our 365-day calendar. It’s no wonder there’s so many Easter-related apps made for Android. From planning a family meal to organizing an egg hunt, Easter keeps us busy, and these Android apps keep us sane.

Epicurious Recipe App (Free)

Easter is an opportunity to pull out all the stops for a family dinner. Search recipes and cooking tips from world-famous chefs with the Epicurious Android app. You get images, ratings and an in-app shopping list with each recipe. With a special section for holidays and special events, you’re bound to find a special something for Easter dinner. Check your favorites tab for any meals you’ve tagged throughout the year. The Food Network also has a great meal-planning app for specialty menus.

Poynt (Free)

A local app can be a jack of all trades during the holidays. Whether you’re looking for a place of worship or a local event (perhaps an Easter egg hunt?), Poynt can help you find it. This local search app reveals activities, events, people and venues to explore. Review restaurants if you’re one to brunch after Easter service, and make reservations directly. Travelers also get local gas prices, while shoppers will appreciate any Easter sales offers coming through this Android app.

Bubble Blast Easter (Free)

Rovio’s veered from its expected Easter update to Angry Birds Seasons this year, opting for a Cherry Blossoms update to celebrate the onset of spring instead. That leaves us with Bubble Blast Easter, a year-round game dedicated to the iconic Easter egg. Gameplay is like the regular Bubble Blast games, with colorful eggs, insects and bunnies instead of spheres to trigger a chain reaction. There’s puzzle and arcade mode, accounting for thousands of levels (some of which will cost you). Easter is just one of many holidays Bubble Blast gamifies. There are games for Halloween, Valentine’s Day and St. Patty’s Day too.

Easter Eggs Coloring (Free)

For kids and adults alike, it’s just not Easter without a carton of decorated eggs. Skip the mess this year with a digital coloring book full of patterned eggs awaiting your colorful touch. Use your fingers to color in the eggs, with zoom options for the detailed and an array of brushes and colors to choose from. Decked-out eggs can be posted on Facebook or Twitter, sharing your Easter spirit with the world. Originally designed as an art game, Easter Eggs Coloring is a great app for tablets, especially when you have an antsy kid to distract.

Shopkick (Free)

From grocery store coupons to local deals, Shopkick could save you money this Easter. Holidays tend to attract sales and Easter’s no exception. Earn rewards for shopping at participating locations, including convertible currency, badges and free donations. Shopkick hid Easter eggs in various retail locations last year, giving your rewards pot an extra boost. You’re likely to see a similar promo in the coming weeks.
