Heart-fluttering Android apps for Valentine’s Day

by Kristen Nicole

We’ve barely escaped the holiday season and here comes Valentine’s Day, primed and flush for romance. Whether you’re an old pro at this game of love or in need of inspiration, there’s an Android app to help get you through the day. Intimate dinners for two, flowers for your beau or poems to get the blood flowing, get creative this Valentine’s Day (and head to Walgreens the next morning for some great sales on heart-shaped candy).

OpenTable (free)

First things first – nothing says Valentine’s Day more than an evening out on the town. Plan ahead with OpenTable’s free Android app, helping you search, book and confirm reservations at tens of thousands of restaurants in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and UK. Search by restaurant name, or find a local eatery based on price, cuisine, desired reservation time or ambiance. If you’re caught on Valentine’s Day without dinner plans, you can use OpenTable to see real-time reservation availability for local restaurants. And if you’re part of their Dining Rewards program, you’ll earn some points for your next night out. There’s even a search filter for the number of points you’ll get at a particular restaurant, so you may ultimately be able to save some money on the year’s most expensive date night.

1800flowers Mobile App (free)

What’s more romantic than a fresh bouquet of sweet-smelling flowers? Wow your lover this Valentine’s Day with a nosegay delivered straight from the heart. 1-800-Flowers’ free Android app grants access to their online catalog. When you’ve selected the perfect arrangement, you can fill the order using your phone’s address book to help with the details. If you’d rather see the flowers in person, the 1-800-Flowers app will also direct you to their nearest location. You can bet 1-800-Flowers is ready for the occasion, so check their catalog for special Valentine’s Day gifts.

Cupid.com - Dating for Singles (free)

You’ve got a few days before Valentine’s Day gets here, so that leaves plenty of time to find yourself a date. Check out Cupid.com’s free Android app for a serious dating partner or a new friend. There’s a location-based search to keep things simple, alerts and notifications for when singles are nearby. You can get to know others in specialized chat rooms before meeting in person, and send out as many winks as you like.

Love Poems (free)

Valentine’s Day is one of the few opportunities to go overboard for love, and the free Love Poems app will give you plenty of inspiration. Search, save and share your favorite quotes for love, romance or friendship. This database has thousands of ways to say “I love you,” and you can even send in your own. Poems are all rated, with an option to save them to your favorites. Learn more about each poem’s author and send poems via SMS, email or Twitter.

Love Frames (free)

Capture every lovey-dovey moment of Valentine’s Day with the free Love Frames Android app. It comes with dozens of photo frames to add a touch of romance to your snapshots. They’re all “love” related, so there’s plenty of red and pink, hearts and butterflies. Save photos to your device gallery, send them directly to friends via email or SMS, or share them with the world on Facebook, Twitter and more.
