Great app for a great service

  • App review for Amazon MP3

Amazon MP3 is an awesome app that fronts a great service. You can download music cheaper (generally) than you can from iTunes and as a bonus it's DRM free allowing you to share your downloads across all your devices.

Solid Barcode scanner

Very good app overall, I've just found Barcode Scanner to be a little quicker but only because it's more lightweight. This app gives a ridiculous amount of product options.

Stick with the mobile site

Not only is this app poorly designed, I also found it to be a huge battery drain. There are a hundred other apps I'd rather use my battery for than this heap of an app.

Now if only it made me stick to my diet...

JogTracker is a pretty easy app to use. With settings for walkers, runners and cyclists, it tracks how far you go and where you go, your average pace and how many calories you've burned. You can upload the results to JogTracker.com (requires an account, free) and keep track of your progress.

Great Way to Find the Best Deals

Scan a product's barcode and you can then see its price at other local and online stores. You can get directions to local stores where the product is cheaper, or instantly order online for less. A must have.

Ring ring ring!

  • App review for Missed Reminder

One of the things missing on my new phone - and I don't know if it was the Evo or Android 2.1 or HTC Sense - was an ongoing notification system. Missed Reminder lets the user customize - wait for it - REMINDERS for SMS, MMS, email, and calendar events for which they missed the original alarm. There are options for LED and sound repeats. After all, it could be from someone important. Like Steve Jobs.

The settings are a little annoying to configure, I've noticed, and you have to remember to turn OFF alerts on everything else so you don't get double-alerted. Still - not bad.

I can't help it. Not a fan.

This app SEEMS like a good idea. And I haven't deleted it yet because it's fun to try it out once inawhile and see if it recognizes ANYTHING. But this app, which uses the barcode scanner to capture an image of an item and look up its information, doesn't seem to know much.

If it can't scan and recognize a red Swingline stapler - with the logo showing - I think it needs a little more work.

Nice mid-level camera app

This camera app is more than just a fun one... it steps it up a notch and gives you fun with effects as well as some more professional tools. In addition to the fun filters and effects, this one puts adjustment in your hands with white balance, flash choices, and a few other tools.

Sideloading FTW!

Aldiko is the much-loved e-reader app that preceded iBooks, Kindle, Nook and Kobo in the mobile device world, and many Palm users still swear by its superiority. It starts you off with a friendly library look, and comes pre-loaded with many familiar free titles, organized into “shelves” by themes.
There’s no shop connected to Aldiko, and the app DOES allow sideloading of epub files from the SD card in your phone. In this way, it’s a perfect complement to a reader app that doesn’t support that function. Another bonus is the night/day option for reading, which allows you to choose if you’d like black on white or white on black texts. The page turns aren’t as flashy, but they’re quick and competent. As with other mobile reader apps, Aldiko also provides options for font face and size.
Without a huge retail store behind it, Aldiko isn’t entirely in the same class as other e-reader apps, but it looks like a great supplemental app for bringing in your other content.

The only sports app I need. So far.

ScoreMobile has a twin over in the Blackberry App market, and when I moved platforms I knew this was once again the only sports app I needed. It’s a tabbed interface that gives you access not only to sports common in the US (NFL, MLB, PGA, etc.) but also has options to follow your teams overseas, such as Spain’s La Liga and England Premiership soccer. You can select favorite teams to keep their information more easily accessible, and set alerts to remind you of upcoming games.
ScoreMobile is a handy all-in-one app for any sports follower, especially when there’s more than one game on and the people at the bar refuse to give you the remote.

Fun wif kittehs

  • App review for LOL Sites
  • Posted by GirlGoneGeek August 06, 2010

The good people at Cheezburger have given us yet another way to waste time with captioned kittehs. Quicker than navigating your mobile browser (no ads!), this app gives you access to a lot of your favorite LOLz, from cheezburgers and hot dogs to Pundit Kitchen, Up Next in Sports, the always-popular FAIL Blog, and many more.
LOLz wouldn’t be complete without giving the user a chance to contribute. You can create a LOL and submit it right from the app! And, with a choice of widgets running on your homescreen, u will be shure to haz a happy. (Free)

You need Chuck Norris

The iconic Texas martial artist and actor may be more myth than man, but no one questions the guy who can lead a horse to water AND make it drink. A quick tap on the shotgun in this app fires off a Norris-ism and a pleasantly realistic gunshot sound effect. You can turn the sound off if you don’t want to be conspicuous about the fact that you’re reading about how Chuck Norris can cut diamonds with his fingernails while you’re in a board meeting. Once in awhile you’ll get a repeat, but what do you expect from the man who counted to infinity twice? If you don’t get the Chuck Norris Factbook app, Chuck Norris will get you. (Free, but Chuck Norris will always make you pay.)

A solid twitter client

This is a solid twitter client. Not as nice as the iPhone version, but better than a lot of other android clients.

Fun, but not perfect

The game feels like it has much more lag than it does on my iPad. Still a fun game.

Not as nice as iTunes, but still okay

There's great music, but the interface isn't quite as good.

Just ugly

This is so much worse than the iPhone version it isn't even funny. It's not even as good as the mobile website.

A neat idea, but not useful

This was a cool idea, but it isn't really usable. It's worth playing with to see the enhanced reality, but I wouldn't use it more than a couple of times.

Great for music

A great app for listening to music on the go. I'd hate to live without it.
