Not bad at all

Fairly easy to set up, some not comparable to UK features but the rest are easy. Handy for keeping an eye out on your usage.

A strategy that starts off fun but gets repetitive

  • App review for UniWar HD
  • Posted by balzzzy September 10, 2010
  • Recommended for Gamers or Students

I am a huge strategy game fan whether in real time or turn based. UniWar is a turn based strategy that starts off on the right foot with all of the elements, but makes the genre feel stale at times in the execution.

There are 3 races in the game each with 8 units. There are various maps to play through and a campaign mode that really just teaches you about the units. The units within each race feel way too balanced to offer much element of strategy in the game. While the terrain affects unit movement distance and defense, it feels more like a hindrance most times.

I wish that the sound effects and music were properly executed as well. The music plays more in the menus than it does in game and abruptly stops at times. And the sound effects for enemy attacks sounds like click click click instead of a gun or whatever else is being used.

While the visuals are decent, the animations and movements feel clunky.

A good start but no where near the element of fun I expect in a turn based strategy. I could play Final Fantasy Tactics for hours on end and completely lose track of time. This game I can barely sit through one full round for 10 minutes.

A good idea but for how long?

Here you have a tazer emulator that is a start but not much more. You can change the sound effect of the tazer and the skin. A good laugh for the first time you pretend to use this on someone but that's where it ends as well.

It's really Bejeweled in disguise

  • App review for Jewels
  • Posted by balzzzy September 10, 2010
  • Recommended for Gamers or Students

Bejeweled, I mean Jewels is a fun game in short bursts. The idea is to match three or more of the same shape and color to earn a higher score. It plays exactly the same as Bejeweled and there really isn't anything new in this port.

I didn't find it particularly interesting, there were no power ups or specials or anything extra. While the game offers three different types of game modes, there still really isn't much variation. For those who are hardcore puzzle fans, this game may still not appeal to you as it gets old quick.

Still a decent game, but there are better puzzle games out there on the Market.

This browser completely replaced the default android browser for me. It support tabs and flash video and has a great UI setup for Bookmarks and browser addons. Overall I think this may be the best browser out there.

Works well, but beware

This app works well to help thin out your start-up apps. But beware of 2 things: 1) The UI is a bit confusing. Pay attention to color changes and check marks. 2) If you use a task killer, make sure you put Startup Cleaner on the ignore list or it probably won't work.

Great app!

I got the paid version of this app to replace my Taskmanager and Uninstaller along with getting the function of viewing stats and information about my phone. This app is now one of my favorites.

Tricky Trap Detector

  • App review for Trapster
  • Posted by binggeli September 10, 2010
  • Recommended for Road Warriors, Students or Outdoors Enthusiasts

First of all, this is not a radar detector. This is a small app that collects information from its users to update local maps with commonly known speed trap hideouts.

I found that the map was hard to read, especially while driving, although the GPS (showing you where you're driving) is pretty good.

There's a bit of a sign-up process involved, and you need to activate the app with a code that you get for free through e-mail.

I'm still trying to figure out how useful this app is, as it obviously doesn't relate to real-time and heavily depends on the user-base for accuracy and updates.

A bunch of classics all in one

Sinister Planet is one of those games that you stumble upon in the Market and the first thing you read is 'Defender, Sinistar, Galaga, Asteroids, R-Type...Sinister Plantet'. Now that's quite a claim having listed the biggest names in classic shooter history. But when you first play the game you will quickly see the resemblances.

First of all this game isn't your typical side scrolling shooter. It is played from a top down view with your controller/thruster in the bottom left corner and your firing button can be placed along the right side. That's it, except for one thing...it incorporates quasi-realistic zero-friction physics. In short that means when you thrust your ship forward it will slide when you let go of the thruster. This adds a very realistic sense of movement in space as there are no air brakes and there is no traction.

Players must shoot down the various aliens that they encounter and destroy asteroids to gain gems and gold asteroids for extra money as well as the odd power up. If an alien captures your gem you have to shoot them down quickly or they will transform into a stronger enemy that will hunt your ship down. Money buys power ups in between waves of enemies. You can upgrade various things like weapons, shield, engines, restore health, add a turret and more. The Dev just added a new level feature to destroy the planets as you hover over the surface and shoot down everything. The resolution on the planets is incredible.

This game certainly steps away from the norm and adds different game elements to combine into something special. The developer is always updating and improving the game and other developers on the Market should take note. Download the demo and try it out. See you on the leaderboard.

It works, but is boring

Yes this is the classic Newton's Cradle but it is very basic. The physics are all there, but how long do you really play with this before you've had enough. For me it was about a minute and that was it. The balls can be changed to 1 of 3 different settings. You can use the accelerometer to swing the balls around but they become out of control. The sound definitely has to stay off on this one.

It's ok, but that's about it.

Insulting to say the least

I support the team at KittehFace, they have brought many quality live wallpapers to the Market...but not this time around. While the idea behind this live wallpaper is one I am all for, pick your countries flag and watch it proudly flap in the wind, as a Canadian I am insulted to see my flag done wrong. Completely WRONG! Even the US flag is backwards on screen. While it does have a great amount of settings to it, those settings mean nothing when your flag is incorrectly displayed.

I sent an e-mail to the Dev on this one and they said they had no intent on changing the flags. That's fine, I have no intent on spending a dollar on this until it is fixed.

Planets orbiting never looked so cool

I looked on appolicious for the full version of this app to review as I bought it but I can't seem to find it. Nevertheless, this Live wallpaper looks amazing.

Essentially the focus is on the sun as the planets of our galaxy rotate around it. In the full version you can tweak all settings which include orbital speed, solar system type, preferred view, tap view, music visualization, show stars, planet detail and frame-rate limit. When you change the default view you get a whole different perspective and it makes you feel like you are in space watching from a distance.

I recommend this live wallpaper and try out the lite version on the Market. Great job to the team at gentlemandroid.

Cybertron, Tatooine and a beach ball!?

So if you downloaded the Earth Live wallpaper app to your phone then you have to follow up by downloading this map extension. This extensive list of maps is incredible and there are way too many to list. My favorites include Cybertron (from Transformers), Borg Sphere (from Star Trek), Death Star 2 (which has a hollowed out planet effect, AWESOME!), Naboo (from Star Wars) and the moon. All maps save to the SD card so you can rest assured it won't chew up your storage on your phone.

While Pluto may not be classed as a planet, I wished it were on this list. But you can have everything else. Very recommended and worth your time.

The first part of a great Live wallpaper

This Live wallpaper looks great and the detail in the planet is very good. When you download this app there is an option to download a map pack which adds the rest of the planets and popular science fiction planets as well.

The settings come with the app for free and include globe aspect, globe behavior, maps, background, starfield and foreground. The extensive list of planets is too much to list here but they do save to the SD card which helps on the giant file size of the map pack.

I recommend this because it looks great and is free.

It's classic, it's simple, you are now in the matrix

If you've seen the Matrix then you know what this wallpaper is all about. Those random characters and symbols in green running down the screen. Travis Pearson does an awesome job of emulating the classic matrix feel for you mobile.

There is a free version on the Market that gives you basic control of the settings. But the paid version has LOADS of tweaks for settings. These include some battery lines, all battery lines, random line color, message color, random message color, background color, framerate, line density, anti-alias, enhanced shadows, fixed wallpaper, size, speed and a message.

The battery consumption isn't that bad and the Dev did a good job for optimizing. A great wallpaper to add that is subtle but neat. Recommended and worth the money.
