Android App User Reviews

There are better apps out there.

I really wish that carriers would understand that most people do not want applications on their phone that they did not install, and most carrier installed applications aren't very useful.

The only way to uninstall these Sprint installed applications on my phones has been rooting them and then scraping out the applications I don't want with a screwdriver (figuratively).

I gave Sprint music a try for giggles and it seemed to have problems recognizing my music collection. It showed all the files that came "default installed" with this application but none of my own music that I put on it. My music showed up fine and played fine in other applications so I know that it wasn't a problem with the music files.

Not exactly free..

I love the idea or PrinterShare - print wirelessly to your printer (if your printer is supported and if you're connected to the wireless where your printer is also connected).

What I dislike about this app is that it doesn't tell you when you download it that this app only sends a test page to your printer, and it doesn't clearly outline the requirements of your printer. While I am a techie person and I automatically see the limitations of "wireless printing" this could be very frustrating for people who aren't super techie.

I also dislike the amount of permissions that this app needs on your phone - you don't need access to my contacts, the phone calls I've made, or my browser history to print a file that I select on my own.

Because of these reasons I've uninstalled this app and I am not interested in buying the full version (which is currently $12.95).

Not for me..

GO GO CARGO is a Sim game where you "ship" items around the world.

While I enjoy most Sim games, this one is not for me. I dislike games that make you register (really you don't need my email address for me to play your game) and this game is HUGE! 48M is a bit much for any game on my phone (even though I have the space).

After I did register for this bloated game, it force closed almost immediately and I couldn't play it no matter how many times I tried.

After all that frustration, I reclaimed my space and uninstalled this game and have unsubscribed from their emails also.

Doesn't work.

After setting up my Axis account (which is a requirement of using this app), I could not connect to my cameras. No matter what I tried it kept telling me that it couldn't find the server.

Uninstalled.

Preinstalled apps make me sadpants.

Especially when they are games that cannot be deleted (unless you're rooted), and fail at updating themselves.

After 6 notifications of a failed update to this game I scrubbed it off my phone. I even gave it a try at playing it but after one "round" it force closed and I've never tried playing it again.

Dear Carriers: Please don't cram our devices full of things we don't want.

The My Mobile Tracker app showed a lot of promise, the interface is pretty easy to use and the functions seem like they could be very helpful. I love the idea of any app that will help people feel more safe.

Unfortunately what this app doesn't tell you is that it only works in Malaysia. I spent about a day trying to get it to verify my US phone number and kept running into errors saying "verification failed" and there wasn't any helpful information on the site.

I actually found info in other reviews about this app being only for Malaysia, so I'm really disappointed that this isn't spelled out in the app itself.

Not the best GPS app..

I gave this app a try even though I mostly use Google Navigation.

No matter what I do it seems very laggy, giving me directions way too late to be useful. I also seem to lose GPS signal about every other time that I use this, but haven't had any problems with Google Navigation or any other GPS navigation application that I've tried.

The other thing that I noticed is that when compared to Google Navigation (running on EVO with TeleNav and one with Google Navigation in the same car) was that it doesn't seem to update for traffic and takes me the long way everywhere.

I'll be sticking to Google Navigation until they work out whatever bugs are in this app.

Twitter is one of the main social media hubs out there... and this apps interface is okay.

Over all I think that this app could use some work on the UI and how it handles (or doesn't handle) notifications.

Ultimately I uninstalled this app when I found out it was taking up 12MB of space. Way too much and no real explanation why.

No support for WHS 2011

I love the idea of this app.. to be able to access your WHS on your phone and keep an eye on how everything is coming along.

I've been holding onto this trial hoping that they would update it for WHS 2011, but this one is only for the original WHS. On 6/2011 they announced that they would be building a new version for WHS 2011 but I have yet to see it on their product page.

While this app gets good reviews elsewhere I think it's key for developers to stay on top of technology. Almost every one of my WHS buddies and myself switched to WHS 2011 the day it came out. Most people who are nerdy geeky people do just that, grab the cutting edge. So if you want to cater to the geek populous you may want to jump on the new products as well.

Finally VLC comes to Android

  • App review for VLC Direct

I've used VLC player on my computers for years and now it's come to the Android OS.

I had really high hopes for this application but sadly it just doesn't deliver. One of the key points of this app is to be able to stream videos wirelessly from your computer, but no matter how I try I cannot get any videos to stream properly from my Windows Server 2008r2 or my Windows 7 machine to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 or ET4G.

The one thing that this app says it does that works properly is the remote feature. I can use my Android devices to control my computers playback. This isn't really a feature that I would use this app for though.

Hopefully they will work out the kinks in this application so that it will actually deliver.

  • App review for Skyvi (Siri for Android)

In my search for the best Siri-like Android apps this one certainly was the farthest from awesome.

While it does have some neat features that some of the other applications don't have such as reading your Facebook or Twitter walls, it doesn't seem to have a grasp on the core features that I would expect from a voice recognition personal assistant.

The first thing I tested was sending a text message. I told it "Send a text message to FirstName" and it replied "try sending mail to Dr. Wallace", now this is a little confusing because I don't know a Dr. Wallace and I certainly don't have him in my contacts. I also asked to send a text, not an email.

The second test I did was to tell it to "Find the nearest Starbucks" and it did correctly translate that command and brought up a list of Starbucks locations. Where I live there is a Starbucks about 5 blocks away, but Skyvi brings up a location that's 2.5 miles away and one that's 1.6 miles away. Neither of these are the closest location (which does show up in Maps). The other strange thing is that it wants me to go to the one that's farthest away even though both that are listed in it's results are open.

So if you're looking for an app that will read your friends Facebook wall out-loud to you, give this one a try. If you're looking for an app that has core functions that work soundly, you should skip this one until the devs work out the kinks.

Not the best..

With all this hype about Siri and the iPhone I’ve been doing some searching for the best Android voice command applications.

Edwin, Speech-to-Speech seems to be one of the less awesome Personal Assistant like apps. While it does have some really neat features like Wolfram Alpha, it doesn't seem to handle simple day-to-day commands as well as I'd like.

For a test I asked it to "send a text message to FirstName, good morning." and it brought up a screen to choose an application. After you click on the Messaging app installed on your phone it doesn't insert the send to name or any of your spoken text, it just takes you to your messaging app. So while that may be handy for some, if I'm using voice commands to do something that likely means that I don't have a free hand so this is something that this app couldn't do for me.

The second test I did was to ask "give me directions to Starbucks" and while it did prompt me for which Map application to use it failed at translating the command I gave it into a useful location and Maps tried to direct me to "give me Starbucks." Obviously just scraping out the word directions.

So if you're looking at a voice command application that has access to Wolfram Alpha and can do some math and you don't need things like directions or the ability to send texts, give this one a try. For me, directions and texts are my two main objectives and this one won't work for me.

Privacy issues.

I made the mistake to use my FB credentials to log in... it posted on my wall on my behalf. Very sneaky in my opinion. DO NOT download if you appreciate you privacy

I Just don't get the point of this app...maybe it just doesn't have a point but I don't need it slowing my Android down or wasting battery

Not on my phone?

The manufacturer of my phone (Star A1000) says it is compatible, but the market says it is not and therefore does not give me the option of trying,
Of course it might help if the market didn't just identify my device as "O2 phone"

Spam or useful, I can't tell.

I grabbed this app when I started looking for handy money saving apps.

Hypothetically this app should allow you to scan items in your grocery store and collect "rewards." However in the time that I've played with this app it really only seems like a way to get people to run around scanning items and coercing people into using their unique "code" to get more points. IE - If you use my code I get some points and you do too!

I've also heard a lot of complaints that people have been mysteriously losing their points when they try to redeem them. Since I only had a small handful of points when I was trying this app out I wasn't able to redeem for anything.

Seems pretty sketchy and I've uninstalled it.

Full of SPAM

I love zombie games, and so I picked this one up. The game play is mediocre and when you quit the game you realize that this app has taken over your phone with SPAM notifications.

Steer clear of this one. Uninstalled and won't be re-installing.

Current Event Tickets

The Current Events Tickets App makes it easy to purchase tickets to concerts, sporting events, and theatre performances directly from your phone. It's like every other ticketing up but others give you better prices and better ways to view the events of your choice.
