Android App User Reviews

Buggy at best.

My search for a solid Android media streaming app continues..

This app claims to be able to stream media (video, music and pictures) over a wireless connection to your phone, as well as via internet to any device.

What's not immediately obvious when you check out this app is that you have to have a piece of software installed on the computer that you want to stream FROM. I hate installing extra programs on my home server but gave it a whirl anyway.

This app was able to browse the folders from my home server just fine, but when it came to playing any video files it failed. I tried all of my different media types and they all failed. When I tried to browse my music it would list all the music files, but again wouldn't play any of them.

This app also doesn't exit on it's own, you'll have to go into programs and force close it. This means that you'll likely see a huge battery drain because it will always be running. I've uninstalled it and will continue my search for a good media streaming app.

Not useful.

I love apps that will help you save time and money. This one would be great for someone who uses unleaded (cheap) gas, but isn't useful for anyone who has a car that only takes premium.

Sadly the two features that this app has - gas finder and adding your vehicle to this app to track mileage - don't work.

When I went in to add my car it wouldn't open the selection for the sub-model and I can't save my car to this app without it. You also cannot change the gas type that you want to search for - it will only show unleaded.

Sadly I've uninstalled this app.

This is the best weather app + all the extras you could want in widgets and animation/ forecasts. Don't waist money finding out I was right. Read the directions; I'm sure you'll rate it well too. UPDATE: This app does not seem to be supported anymore :(

I love UNO but ..

  • App review for UNO™ FREE

When I was young my Grandmother used to play UNO with me all the time, so this game has a place in my heart. I had high hopes when I saw that this game launched by a well known developer.

Sadly once I went to open this game I got a notification that an additional download of 45MB in addition to the 8MB that was already downloaded. Now I have no false ideas that awesome games don't take up a ton of space, but 53MB's is a tad bit overboard. The other problem that I have with this app is that you have to be on WiFi even after the initial download. Even after all these measures I was unable to get the multi-player mode to work even when both devices were on the same network.

Sadly I've uninstalled this app and reclaimed the 53MBs of space on my phone.

Great for video, not awesome for voice.

Fring is a video / voice call application that allows you to make calls to people in your contact lists.

I've tried this with multiple devices (HTC EVO, Epic Touch 4g) and have had no success with getting the voice part of this app to work correctly. Video can be choppy at times, but no one can hear me and half the time I can't hear them.

Demo has expired. :(

The day that I installed this app, I opened it and wanted to test it out but it said "demo expired." I just reinstalled it on my new phone to see if it might have been a problem with my old device, nope - demo expired still.

This seems to be happening to other people as well, but I'm hoping it will be fixed soon. Hard to buy the $9.99 paid version when the demo won't work.

I have been looking for a good solid poker game for a while now, and a friend suggested Zynga Poker.

When I first opened this app it immediately force closed, and then in my status bar there was a notice about "buying chips for zynga poker" even though the app was closed. I tried opening it a few more times with the same results and then uninstalled. I really dislike apps that put SPAM on your phone.

Would be neat if it worked.

Animate your Starbucks cup with this app, or at least that's the idea. Make those figure skaters come alive and dance around and collect all the different holiday cups on your phone.

I was out to breakfast with my friend who has an iPhone and when she stole my coffee cup, I asked what she was doing. She finally got the cup to animate on her phone after a handful of tries. I downloaded this app on my HTC EVO and gave it a try and no matter how many times I tried, it wouldn't animate.

I tried on a second cup a few days later, in good light, but still nothing. Kinda disappointing.

Didn't work on my device.

In my search for the best Siri-like Android apps this one didn’t want to come out and play with the rest of the candidates.

I tried to test this one on my HTC EVO, but each time I launched it it warned me that the speech recognizer was not present and text to speech may not work. I downloaded and installed a handful of "speech recognizer" applications and none of them helped with this issue. Strangely when I installed other siri-like apps they didn't have a problem.

When I went into the manual for this app it opened a very crammed website via the browser which was very difficult to navigate on my phone. I would suggest to the dev to make something that's easy to read on the devices that people will be using with this application.

There are better apps out there.

I really wish that carriers would understand that most people do not want applications on their phone that they did not install, and most carrier installed applications aren't very useful.

The only way to uninstall these Sprint installed applications on my phones has been rooting them and then scraping out the applications I don't want with a screwdriver (figuratively).

I gave Sprint music a try for giggles and it seemed to have problems recognizing my music collection. It showed all the files that came "default installed" with this application but none of my own music that I put on it. My music showed up fine and played fine in other applications so I know that it wasn't a problem with the music files.

Not exactly free..

I love the idea or PrinterShare - print wirelessly to your printer (if your printer is supported and if you're connected to the wireless where your printer is also connected).

What I dislike about this app is that it doesn't tell you when you download it that this app only sends a test page to your printer, and it doesn't clearly outline the requirements of your printer. While I am a techie person and I automatically see the limitations of "wireless printing" this could be very frustrating for people who aren't super techie.

I also dislike the amount of permissions that this app needs on your phone - you don't need access to my contacts, the phone calls I've made, or my browser history to print a file that I select on my own.

Because of these reasons I've uninstalled this app and I am not interested in buying the full version (which is currently $12.95).

Not for me..

  • App review for GO GO CARGO
  • Posted by LadyX December 09, 2011

GO GO CARGO is a Sim game where you "ship" items around the world.

While I enjoy most Sim games, this one is not for me. I dislike games that make you register (really you don't need my email address for me to play your game) and this game is HUGE! 48M is a bit much for any game on my phone (even though I have the space).

After I did register for this bloated game, it force closed almost immediately and I couldn't play it no matter how many times I tried.

After all that frustration, I reclaimed my space and uninstalled this game and have unsubscribed from their emails also.

Doesn't work.

After setting up my Axis account (which is a requirement of using this app), I could not connect to my cameras. No matter what I tried it kept telling me that it couldn't find the server.

Uninstalled.

Preinstalled apps make me sadpants.

Especially when they are games that cannot be deleted (unless you're rooted), and fail at updating themselves.

After 6 notifications of a failed update to this game I scrubbed it off my phone. I even gave it a try at playing it but after one "round" it force closed and I've never tried playing it again.

Dear Carriers: Please don't cram our devices full of things we don't want.

Awesome.. if you live in Malaysia.

The My Mobile Tracker app showed a lot of promise, the interface is pretty easy to use and the functions seem like they could be very helpful. I love the idea of any app that will help people feel more safe.

Unfortunately what this app doesn't tell you is that it only works in Malaysia. I spent about a day trying to get it to verify my US phone number and kept running into errors saying "verification failed" and there wasn't any helpful information on the site.

I actually found info in other reviews about this app being only for Malaysia, so I'm really disappointed that this isn't spelled out in the app itself.

Not the best GPS app..

  • App review for TeleNav GPS Navigator
  • Posted by LadyX November 29, 2011
  • Recommended for Road Warriors, Outdoors Enthusiasts or Career People

I gave this app a try even though I mostly use Google Navigation.

No matter what I do it seems very laggy, giving me directions way too late to be useful. I also seem to lose GPS signal about every other time that I use this, but haven't had any problems with Google Navigation or any other GPS navigation application that I've tried.

The other thing that I noticed is that when compared to Google Navigation (running on EVO with TeleNav and one with Google Navigation in the same car) was that it doesn't seem to update for traffic and takes me the long way everywhere.

I'll be sticking to Google Navigation until they work out whatever bugs are in this app.

Twitter is one of the main social media hubs out there... and this apps interface is okay.

Over all I think that this app could use some work on the UI and how it handles (or doesn't handle) notifications.

Ultimately I uninstalled this app when I found out it was taking up 12MB of space. Way too much and no real explanation why.

No support for WHS 2011

I love the idea of this app.. to be able to access your WHS on your phone and keep an eye on how everything is coming along.

I've been holding onto this trial hoping that they would update it for WHS 2011, but this one is only for the original WHS. On 6/2011 they announced that they would be building a new version for WHS 2011 but I have yet to see it on their product page.

While this app gets good reviews elsewhere I think it's key for developers to stay on top of technology. Almost every one of my WHS buddies and myself switched to WHS 2011 the day it came out. Most people who are nerdy geeky people do just that, grab the cutting edge. So if you want to cater to the geek populous you may want to jump on the new products as well.

Finally VLC comes to Android

  • App review for VLC Direct
  • Posted by LadyX November 24, 2011
  • Recommended for Music Fans or Film/TV Fans

I've used VLC player on my computers for years and now it's come to the Android OS.

I had really high hopes for this application but sadly it just doesn't deliver. One of the key points of this app is to be able to stream videos wirelessly from your computer, but no matter how I try I cannot get any videos to stream properly from my Windows Server 2008r2 or my Windows 7 machine to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 or ET4G.

The one thing that this app says it does that works properly is the remote feature. I can use my Android devices to control my computers playback. This isn't really a feature that I would use this app for though.

Hopefully they will work out the kinks in this application so that it will actually deliver.
